gypsy love…

Firstly this post is dedicated to my lovely friend Julieanne Saint-Laurence, as it was only today that we were discussing and feeling mighty proud of our ‘gyspy’ heritage.

Tonight I have been lead on a wild gypsy chase! It all started with the first image below. If you look top left you will see a beautiful painting of a girl with a braid.. got it.. well.. I have been searching on and off well not really searching but curious to know more about this painting for many years as I have a copy. Seeing it in this image got me excited as I haven’t seen it anywhere else before, so I investigated further.

I asked my clever art savvy friend David Jaskiewicz to shed some light and as quick as a wink he said it was by the famous French impressionist artist ‘Marcel Dreyfus’ ‘dyf’ for short, born in Paris in 1899-1985. I have since found out that this painting is titled ‘Gyspy Girl’ and she is one of a pair ‘Gypsy Boy’ which I also have.

I have loved these paintings from the moment my mother brought them home from an antique shop in Midland. I was lucky enough to end up with them and am now planning a picture wall similar to this in my lounge room.

Oh and I’m getting them appraised as they don’t appear to be prints, they have brush strokes and are backed directly onto canvas! CAN YOU IMAGINE! I’M DREAMING! insert -i know nothing about art-here !! trying to avoid any art connoisseur embarrassment in advance!
