40 on Friday

On Friday it was Belle’s Beau’s Big Birthday Bash. So to celebrate we all went out for a rather special dinner to our new favourite secret restaurant which unknown to us is quite the institution (which we are about to share with you).

Cafe Mueller.

So its a little off the beaten track in Midland but well worth the drive out there for those not fortunate to live close to it.  From the street, nestled rather unassumingly amongst a bunch of other houses, Cafe Mueller is a rather shy little place only recognisable by it’s red fence and little path leading up to an open front door. Once inside you are confronted by a pastiche of all the treasures acquired (insert: Creepy Cabbage Patch Doll, Dining Mannequins, fake ice-cream sundaes, giant painting of Kathryn Hepburn) by the quirky pair of Germans who own the place and have run it for 20 years.

German Polka music is heard throughout the maze of rooms where you can sit and dine on what can only be called “Real Comfort Food” which is served in a most casual fashion. The owner will even let you roam around the place into his own art studio out the back.

Be warned though, do not go as a large group if you’re not one for sitting in close proximity with your companion diners or if you are into a more fine dining, this is not a place for you, but we strongly recommend giving it a try at least once.

After shuffling around a few of the tables and getting comfortable touching knees with the people next to us we were served our dinner. The place rotates through several 3 course menus of which only one is available on each night; We loved it as it took the decision making out of the equation, however if you have any special dietary needs, call up before hand to find out whats on offer. What was also good was that we didn’t have to share any of our lovely food with anyone else. But we were served an amazing rich beef and vegetable soup, schnitzel with cold potato salad and shredded green salad with devilish creamy dressing. To finish. Well. Only the best baked cheesecake you’ve ever eaten. EVER EATEN! Also on the upside, you can take as much wine in as you can carry!

An amazing night was had by all. Although it did get rather jolly by the end of the night – the owners were even quite happy for a big sing along when a friend started playing the painfully out of tune piano in the main dining room.

Cafe Mueller is a venue that we will be frequenting for many years to come.  You’ll find it at 12 William St, Midland, open Thursday until Sunday from 6.30pm until midnight - 9250 1661

Tell us what you think!!! We would also love to find more places like this around to keep us occupied so please let us know any secret little gems. We promise that our blog followers are only the most reputable kind and will not over populate your favourite local haunt.

Come on lets go. Pt.1

As some of you may know, The BB team has been on the other side of the country catching up with old pals and meeting some new friends. Amidst all the work there was a little fun that went on and in the very short time there, amazing food was eaten, coffee sipped and east coast eye candy ogled.

Melbourne was the first port of call. After a very humid welcome (our hair suffered terribly) we went straight to the hotel, dropped off our bags and immediately hit the streets. Like any sensible person we went to the most important place first… The vintage stores. We soon learned that shopping isn’t the best activity if you have a tight schedule, and had to run back to the hotel to get ready for our event when in typical Melbourne fashion, the heavens opened and we were drenched. Thankfully that was the craziest part of the trip. We did find a gem the following day for breakfast: Kotch Lane on Blessington street in St Kilda (Where Dave claims to have eaten the BEST Bircher Muesli ever made). A tiny little cafe that served the best coffee and heaps of cute dogs out front, which reminded us of our favourite cafe back home.

We all desperately needed the coffee in the morning after such a big first night, as this photo illustrates, Belle has never looked so relieved to put a coffee to her lips.

(unfortunately a pic of the worlds most amazing Bircher Muesli didn’t make the cut as it didn’t last long enough for it to be photographed)

After that the Team had to rush back to collect our things before we headed up to Sydney.

Dinner was at Bodega in Surrey Hills. We were entertained by a gorgeous pair of friends sitting at the bar who were very much enjoying their bottle of wine and each others company.  In between courses of some great Tapas (especially the pulled beef buns) we also found ourselves looking at this handsome Bar-Man working a low v-neck tee and a killer hairstyle. The zoom on the camera didn’t work so well unfortunately, but still thought he was worth sharing.

Even in the dark you can see the cheeky grin on Dave as he was caught having a little peek at the Bar-Man.

At least there was more time in Sydney for the vintage stores where a gorgeous green dress was acquired for Belle along with a wicked pair of shoes.

The event was held the next night where we met some great people, drank lots of Champagne and partied into the wee hours on a Wednesday night. After the event Cina and Dave found themselves drinking a Tom Collins whilst sitting at a grand piano satisfied with all that was accomplished. Belle on the other hand was sensible and went back to her hotel room for the night.

Before we knew it we had to say goodbye to Sydney and head back to Perth. Although we had lots of fun it was so good to be home.

More pics of the Events will feature in Come on lets go pt 2.

xx

APÉRO TIME: La joie dé boire un verre l’apres midi

The French have it all worked out. During the mid afternoon in France you will often hear someone ask: apéro? The french custom of a cheeky afternoon drink. I think its an activity that will be implemented in the BB office over Summer. So in the honor of apéro here is a recipe for a drink which is sure to be the star of your next summer party.

Since Belle Bijoux has undergone the Carmen Miranda treatment this season, we thought we’d put our own BB spin on a classic cocktail named after the Brazilian Starlet herself. Not only does it taste delicious, it also looks like her.

The CARMEN MIRANDA Cocktail BB style.

Ingredients: (Makes 2)

90ml Good White Rum

90ml Phoenix Organic Cola

120ml Fresh Pineapple Juice

90ml Watermelon Juice

Flesh of 2 Ripe Passionfruit

Juice of 1 Lime

Soda Water

Ice

Garnish:

Fresh Mint Leaves

Lime Wedges

Pineapple Wedges (Skin On)

Method:

Put all ingredients except Soda Water into Cocktail Shaker,Shake and Divide half of mix in Pre-Chilled Highball Glasses. Pour Soda over as float and Garnish with Mint Leaves, Lime Wedge, Pineapple Wedge (Skin On) and Colourful Cocktail Paraphernalia.

Ahhh…. is it apéro time yet?

Coquin ~

We can’t always be good – so a little bit of bad is always okay as long as you don’t tell anyone…

So recently Cina from the BB office went on a lovely trip to France with her sexy French boyfriend (who also sails). Not only did she get to hang out on a sailboat in St Tropez, but she also went about proving the point that French women don’t get fat.

Check out some of these babies…

HELLO

yes, that is a 6.40 euro macaron.

(And her waistline managed to stay the same size as when she left)

This last one, Cina taught her French Hosts a trick or two.

drooling the whole time while uploading this post…
